Coriolanus

Terrible people do terrible things both in and to ancient Rome. Sounds awful, turns out to be incredibly riveting and surprisingly modern in terms of plot and pacing.

Tomb Raider (2018)

The best we've had so far on the silver screen, but the plot, action, and characters still feel more like an extended cutscene in a video game than anything worth the time investment. Enjoyable enough.

Jumanji: Born to be Wild

In no world should this film have been good, yet somehow it was great. A genuinely funny and highly entertaining comedy with a great cast and a perfectly enjoyable plot.

The Favourite

An incredibly well-balanced film with a phenomenal cast. Worth delving into to really understand the nuance.

Man Up

A quirky and loveable rom-com that rallies from a weird opening to a genuinely fun finale.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

A bizarrely beautiful tale of self-discovery that crafts an emotional and interesting story. Well worth a watch.

Deadpool

An extremely faithful adaptation of the character with some excellent action sequences, but fails to really capture the spark of creativity that can make Deadpool truly great.

Spy

Funny spy based entertainment. Perfectly enjoyable; not a must-see but better than mediocre.

Warcraft

Not great, not completely awful. Yet another flop that I wouldn't mind giving the chance of a sequel, just to see what would happen.

Les Misérables

Superb. A truly brilliant adaptation and well-deserving of the praise, as well as just being a brilliant and emotional story in the first place.

The Princess and the Frog

The shadows are awesome, the jazz is slick but ultimately the story a little flat. Worth a watch but no modern classic.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

A great effort at some genuinely interesting and unique fantasy, let down by a lack of world-building and the occasional blunder. Enjoyable but buzzing with greater potential.
