A great overview of the state of the modern web from a UX and environmental perspective. Gerry notes the impact of image and videos (and JavaScript) on websites …
There's a lot going on in this analysis of trust (or lack of it) online. Some parts I agree with, some I don't. It's interesting thinking about the early web in the context of naive communities with …
CSS? Fonts? Italics? Sidebars? What witchcraft is this? Is this not theAdhocracy, the home of plain HTML and nothing more (despite the clear problems associated with that)? Well: yes! But at …
Given the increasing diversity of web based (and meat space) services it is a source of constant confusion and annoyance that there aren't any far reaching, respected, crowd-sourced review sites out …
So another year, another April 1st. As is usually the case, the internet was awash with odd concepts, fake news and terrible puns. On top of which, we also had the annual Aprils Fools "pranks" …
I just fell down a rabbit hole learning about Dark Patterns, thanks largely to a link in an, as ever, well thought out Adactio post. To be clear, I knew what a Dark Pattern was, I just hadn't come …
It's that odd time of year, the bit between Christmas and New Year where time doesn't really flow like you expect it to. No one knows what day of the week it is and everything seems to be …
A look back and a look forward... it must be the start of a new year. 2019 held a lot of change and personal improvement, but I can't help but feel that 2020 is going to be a big one. So what exactly do I have planned and what am I hoping for the next 12 months?
I finally made it to an IndieWebCamp meetup, even if it was remote only due to the increasingly restrictive implications of the coronavirus. I learnt a lot, I had a great time, and I'm ready to start implementing a whole bunch of new ideas right here. I also took a huge number of notes from the speakers and sessions throughout the day.
Notes from my second fully remote conference, this time Sparkbox's UnConference. Being able to freely access talks from the US is a rare bonus of everything going on right now, and this did not disappoint. Musical cameos, great talks on UX, accessibility, design systems, and amazing speakers. Great event (despite the time difference).
For the last month, I've been getting show-stopping errors in Craft. My web host couldn't find any faults, Craft support had no clue, and it only affected one machine: one with Bitdefender installed. I wonder...
As far as years go, 2021 held some pretty big surprises and featured some fairly grown-up decisions. Life will never be the same again...
The tale of my (possibly brief) foray into the world of tech reviews and market influencers.
An excellent overview of the European Accessibility Act, how it overlaps with existing regulations, and the impact it might have. Doesn't get too technical, but does do a good job of explaining the …
Various notes from my battle to get a local development environment working for Craft CMS.
Specifically, the 6th (and 7th) of August, 2023; the day we tied the proverbial knot.
What are my goals, themes, and overarching desires for the year ahead; and how does 2023 compare to what I had hoped it would become.
A look back over the twelve months that made up 2023, via the lens of the data captured about my life.
Every web developer has torn their hair out trying to align an icon with some text, or two separate pieces of text with each other, or (god forbid) a whole sequence of text nodes, icons, form …
Looking back over 2024, through the lens of the data I captured (or had captured about me).
A look back over 2024, a year dominated by travel and friends ‒ and, particularly, travel WITH friends!
A comprehensive review of 2025, through the lens of the data I captured (or had captured about me).
